Record button spinning / errors
What to do when recording won't start or shows an error.
Record button spinning, or recording won't start
- 1
Fully quit and reopen the app
Mac: ⌘ + Q. Windows: Alt + F4 or right-click the tray icon › Quit. Closing the window isn't enough. - 2
Make sure only one output device is active
Unplug or disable extra speakers, monitors and virtual audio devices. On Windows, set one device as both Default and Default Communication — step-by-step. - 3
Turn your headset on before pressing Record
Switching or reconnecting audio devices mid-session can stop capture. - 4
Press Record and give it 5–10 seconds
Then play a video to confirm the Interviewer bar moves.
"WebSocket failed" or "Could not start multichannel" error
This usually means our transcription service had a brief hiccup. Quit the app completely, reopen it, and start a new session. If it keeps happening, email us — we may already be on it.
Windows app stuck on a loading screen after an update
Uninstall it, then download a fresh copy from the download page and install again.
"Your free session has ended"
You've used the 2 minutes of a free test session. Start a new session for another 2 minutes, or for unlimited time. See Free test sessions.
Recording stops when I'm not using it
After 10 minutes with no activity, the app asks whether you're still there and pauses recording 2 minutes later if you don't respond. Click Continue to keep going.
Still stuck? Email ben@interviewsidekick.com with what you tried and a screenshot, and we'll help you get it working.
